SATANのイメージはメソポタミアやエジプトの神々を貶めた半獣半人として描かれるのが常だが、『ヨブ記』のSATANからはそんな化け物風ではなく、しょぼくれていながら途轍もなく賢くかつ冷酷で、じつに厄介そうなオーラをまとった人間的相貌が浮かび上がってくる。
